Who we are
INSPIRING PATRIOTISM SINCE 1889
THE COLORADO SOCIETY was admitted into the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution on 1 July 1896. Since 1896, Society membership has grown from 16 Charter Members and one chapter to 420 Members, 5 chapters, and one "At-Large" chapter in 2025.

The Chapters work closely with their respective communities to keep alive the Patriotic ideals for which our ancestors fought and died in the American Revolution. Some of the ways the SAR does this is by awarding certificates and medals for public service, proper display of the American Flag, good citizenship, Scouting, Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) and Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC).
Membership also emphasize family memberships, in particular younger applicants under the age of 18 with the Junior Membership Program. Our youth are the future of the Sons of the American Revolution as they will carry on the legacy of our patriotic forefathers.
Each year, COSSAR recognizes an outstanding Eagle Scout for their accomplishments. A recent recipient of this prestigious award went on to place 2nd in the National Eagle Scout Competition and was awarded a $4,000 scholarship.
COSSAR also maintains close relationships with the Colorado State Society of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Colorado State Society of the National Society of the Children of the American Revolution (N.S.C.A.R.). We maintain Liason Committee Chairs as primary contacts with both of these closely allied heritage organizations.
Our Annual State Conference is usually held at a local country club or similar venue in the Denver Metro area on a Saturday in January. Our annual George Washington Luncheon, at which COSSAR's new state officers are installed, is on the Saturday before President's Day. A keynote speech is delivered by a prominent patriot. Additionally, awards and medals for distiguished police, fire, safety professionals, as well as Eagle Scout scholarships, are presented.
