Long’s Peak Chapter
On behalf of the Long’s Peak Chapter of the Colorado Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, thank you for visiting our page.
Our chapter was chartered on October 8th, 1995, and since then has grown to nearly 100 members. We meet monthly and are an active and dynamic membership - hosting a range of historical and genealogical speakers across topics including contemporary interpretation of the U.S. Constitution, discussion of significant cultural and historical events tied to the Revolutionary War, the Civil War and the 20th Century, Native American history, Westward Expansion, and regularly recognize the contributions made by our veterans.
Geographically, we represent Colorado from the Denver Metro Area north to the Wyoming border, and incorporate activities with other historical and genealogical societies including the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Children of the American Revolution (CAR).
Our community outreach involves school districts, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), the Veterans Administration (VA), ROTC/JROTC programs, and local patriotic events such as Veterans Day and Independence Day parades and festivals. And we host a one-of-a-kind hands-on experience called Patriot’s Chest, which introduces local middle-schoolers and others to what it was like for Continental Army and State Militia volunteers who were directly involved in the U.S. War for Independence.
If you, a family member, or neighbor are interested in U.S. History or becoming prospective member, please join us at our chapter meetings to learn more about our society, chapter, and membership in the Sons of the American Revolution. Those attending display an ardent desire to promote patriotism, education, civic participation, and genealogy.
If you have any questions regarding the Long’s Peak Chapter of COSSAR, please contact any of our officers. They stand ready to assist you in getting involved or in becoming a member of our organization.

Mount Evans Chapter
The Colorado Society of the SAR saw its first meeting on July 4, 1896 in Denver, near present day 16th and California Streets. The Mt. Evans Chapter, covering the Denver metro area and Central Front Range of Colorado specifically, was chartered on July 27, 1985. Currently, the Chapter numbers approximately 120 living descendants of the Colonial Militiamen, Continental Line Soldiers and Patriots who founded the United States of America.
With an annual meeting in January, we also meet near April 19 to recognize Patriots Day, near September 17 to commemorate the Constitution and near December 15 to celebrate the Bill of Rights. Chapter programs are dedicated to the encouragement of patriotism, education of our youth and sustaining the vision of our Patriot ancestors. Recognizing the importance of our area youth, we support and maintain an active educational role in Front Range Schools through the Patriot Chest program, while joining COSSAR efforts to honor outstanding ROTC Cadets, JROTC Cadets and Eagle Scouts. We encourage both Adult, as well as Youth Registrations for male family members under the age of 18.
Members of the Chapter were instrumental in originating the idea and lobbying the Colorado Legislature to recognize April 19 as a perpetual Patriots Day. This day coincides with the attack on Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775 and the firing of the “Shot heard ‘round the world” at Concord Bridge
