About the COSSAR
THE
COLORADO SOCIETY was admitted into the National Society of the Sons of the
American Revolution on 1 July 1896, so we had our centennial celebration in
1996. Since 1896 the Colorado Society has had its ups and down, with numerous
chapters being activated and then dying out. At one time in the early 1920's we
had seven chapters and about 350 members.
At the close of the 2002 fiscal year the Colorado Society had 348 members state
wide. This amount is the largest number of members at any one time in its 106
year history. The Chapters work closely with their respective
communities in keeping alive the Patriotic ideals that our ancestors fought and
died for in the American Revolution. Some of the ways the SAR does this is by
awarding Certificates and Medals for Displaying the American Flag, Good
Citizenship, Scouting and Reserve Officer Training Corp. Membership efforts of
the future will emphasize Family Membership, in particular the younger
applicants especially those under the age of 18 with our Youth Registrant
Program. Our youth are our future salvation.
